SHOWDOWN at STEAMBOAT

December 12-15, 2002

Dear Nordic Friends,

The 2002/2003 World Cup B Nordic Combined season will begin in Steamboat Springs! We are disappointed for our friends in Canada that Calgary was forced to cancel their events due to weather. We are ready to host the Showdown at Steamboat and the venues are well prepared

At the request of FIS, we have added an additional competition to the events here in Steamboat. We are adjusting  to the competition schedule as follows:

                        Wednesday, December 11- Team Captain’s Meeting

Thursday, December 12    -  Official Training

Friday, December 13        - SPRINT Event -  K 114 Jump - 7.5K Cross Country Race

Saturday, December 14    - SPRINT Event -  K 114 Jump - 7.5K Cross Country Race

Sunday, December 15      - Gundersen Event - K114 Jump - 15K Cross Country Race

Some of the Teams may wish to revise their travel schedule and arrive earlier in Steamboat for training. We will make every effort to accommodate you. We would need the details of your new arrival and departure dates and times in order to finalize your hotel and meal plan. Please send the new information to:

All of the fees previously outlined in our original invitation would apply. Since the addition of a third event is a last minute adjustment to the schedule, the FIS has reaffirmed that the Steamboat organizing committee will remain at 4 night of lodging and 4 days of meals for those athletes and coaches covered under the economic quota.

Please keep in mind, that for those athletes and coach covered under the quota, the Steamboat Springs World Cup B Organizer’s obligation period for meals begins with breakfast Thursday, December 12th and ends with Dinner on Sunday, December 15, 2002.  Lodging will be provided for Thursday – Sunday nights.

A room and board package will be available for purchase by all other eligible athletes and trainers not covered under FIS Rules.  The daily cost for those individuals participating in Steamboat for the event  but not covered under the financial quota is $60.00 US. This daily cost would also apply for all competitors and coaches who arrive prior to the morning of Thursday December 12th. We can offer a “room only” option for those teams arriving late(after meal service) on their first day only. The rate would be $30.00 US per person, with a minimum occupancy of two persons to a room.

The Howelsen Hill Nordic Facility will be available prior to the World Cup B events for optional Open training at the rate of $20.00 per day per athlete. Please contact the Competition Secretary, Jim Peterson for pre-event availability.

The Organizing Committee requests that the completed entry forms reach Steamboat Springs by November 15, 2002.  This will enable us to complete preparations for your arrival. Please be sure to include the date, time and method of transportation of your arrival in Steamboat with the enclosed form.

RULES AND RESTRICTIONS:

All 2002/2003 F.I.S. World Cup B Rules for Nordic Combined will be in effect.

COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY & QUOTAS:

Eligibility to compete will be in accordance with current FIS rules.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR LODGING, MEALS & TRANSPORTATION:

Athletes and trainers will be lodged at various hotels and condominiums in Steamboat. Housing assignments will be made shortly after the receipt of the attached entry form .

TRANSPORTATION

Each nation should proceed with their own airline and ground travel arrangements. Municipal bus transportation is provided free in Steamboat.  The following telephone numbers are provided as information to assist in obtaining auto or van rentals for your stay in the US.

LOCATION

Steamboat Springs is located 300 miles (500 kilometers) from Salt Lake City/ Park City with a driving time of approximately 6 hours depending upon weather.  With the next World Cup B competition being held in Park City, it may be more cost effective to fly into Salt Lake International Airport, rent a vehicle there and drive to Steamboat.  Commercial shuttle service is not available from Salt Lake City to Steamboat.

For those flying into Denver International Airport, Steamboat is located 175 mile (250 kilometers) From DIA with a driving time of approximately 3 hours.  Ground shuttle service from DIA to Steamboat Springs is provided by:

EVENT SCHEDULE & TRAINING

The attached schedule of events begins with a Team Captains’ Meeting on Thursday, December 12, 2002 at 18.00hrs (6:00 PM).  Official training will begin on Friday, December 13, 2002.

If snow conditions and preparations allow, the Howelsen Hill Nordic Facility may be available prior to the World Cup B events from Tuesday, December 10^th to Thursday, December 12th for optional Open training at the rate of $20.00 per day per athlete. Please contact the Competition Secretary, Jim Peterson for pre-event availability.

DOPING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

The FIS is committed to maintaining the integrity of all ski competitions. In order to prevent the use of forbidden substances or methods, doping controls can be carried out at any FIS sanctioned event. 

COMPETITION OFFICE - REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN and ACCREDITATION

The Competition Office will be located in the Howelsen Hill Lodge at the base of the ski jumps.  Upon arrival all team leaders must report to the competition office for check-in and accreditation. Team check-in must be completed before entering the competition venue.

LIABILITY/INSURANCE

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and the City of Steamboat Springs can not be held liable for any damage or accidents.  All participants have to be sufficiently insured against accidents and illness by themselves or their National Federation.

FIS LICENSE

All athletes are required to have a valid FIS license in order to compete.
